Tinubu Warns Obaseki Following Edo Governorship Election Results, Calls on Opponents to Seek Legal Redress

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has advised Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party to explore legal options if they are unsatisfied with the outcome of the recently concluded Edo State governorship election. The call came after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner.

In a statement released on Sunday night by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu congratulated Senator Okpebholo for securing victory with 291,667 votes, surpassing Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, and Akpata, who trailed with 22,763 votes.

The president lauded the APC’s leadership and its supporters in Edo State, attributing the success to their unwavering commitment and hard work. He emphasized that the outcome is a reflection of the public's confidence in the APC’s progressive agenda.

President Tinubu encouraged Senator Okpebholo to consider the victory as a mandate to serve all Edo citizens, urging him to foster unity by reaching out to his political opponents. He reiterated that those dissatisfied with the election should seek resolution through the legal framework, underscoring that peaceful political competition is crucial for strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

This election marks a significant political event in Edo State, with President Tinubu's endorsement of the electoral process highlighting his administration's commitment to upholding democratic values.
