In a move to elevate Nigeria's standing in space technology, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing the space sector through strategic international collaborations. This was revealed by Dr. Felix Ale, Director of Media and Corporate Communications at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), on Tuesday.

During a meeting at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Chief Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, engaged in discussions with representatives from Axiom Space. These talks underscore Nigeria's strategic efforts to boost space technology for national development.

Minister Nnaji highlighted the profound impact of space technology on various sectors of the economy, stating, “Space technologies have an impact on almost all aspects of development.” He further emphasized the potential of space innovations to transform industries such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and weather forecasting. Nnaji underscored that the space economy holds immense potential for creating wealth and accelerating national development.

Nnaji expressed appreciation for the collaboration with Axiom Space, stating, "We are open to collaboration and partnership in the drive towards the effective development of our space programme." This openness is in line with the administration's priority of advancing the space sector as a vital component of national growth.

Idris Saliu, Special Adviser to the President on Technology and the Digital Economy, commended Nnaji's leadership and dedication, stating, "Your passion and determination towards consolidating the nation’s achievements in the critical sector of Space Science and Technology is commendable." He confirmed that Axiom Space's proposals would be given serious consideration for future collaborations.

Dr. Matthew Adepoju, Director General of NASRDA, also lauded the Minister’s efforts, noting, “The success of the Space Agency will no doubt help to better define and drive innovation and development in the country.”

Garvey McIntosh, Senior Director of International Government Business at Axiom Space, remarked on Nigeria’s promising future in the space sector. “Nigeria is primed to leverage this relationship into a burgeoning space industry,” he said, stressing the importance of effective policy implementation and investment to turn this vision into reality.

Chief Nnaji further expanded the scope of Nigeria’s technological ambitions by meeting with the United Nations Special Advisor on Social and Economic Development, Brock Pierce. Discussions centered around potential opportunities to further enhance Nigeria’s technology landscape.

Affirming his resolve, Nnaji declared, "My decision to positively impact various parastatals under my ministry is not just a priority but a mission that must be accomplished."

With these bold initiatives, Nigeria is positioning itself to become a leader in the global space sector, driving innovation and fostering national development.
