APC Targets Southeast Dominance with Edo Pattern, Says Anambra Next

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is setting its sights on consolidating political control in the Southeast, with Anambra State emerging as the next major battleground. The National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, made this declaration at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, following the triumph of Senator Monday Okpebholo in the recent Edo State elections, stating that other Southeast States would be taken soon.

In his address, Ganduje expressed confidence that the APC will not only retain its hold on Ondo State in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections but will also unseat the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State. He outlined a comprehensive strategy aimed at increasing the APC's presence in the Southeast, a region where the party currently controls two states, Imo and Ebonyi.

“We are determined to expand our footprint in the Southeast, starting with Anambra State next year,” Ganduje said. “Our goal is to address the perceived marginalization of the region by aligning Anambra with Imo and Ebonyi, which are already APC-governed states. This will ensure that the concerns of the Southeast are effectively represented in the national framework.”

The APC chairman stressed that the party is committed to replicating the successful tactics used in Edo State across other key elections. He stated that the party’s ultimate aim is to gain a broader political foothold in the Southeast, which is critical to the party’s long-term national strategy.

“Our project of politically de-marginalizing the Southeast is not just an idea; it’s a task that must be accomplished. Out of the five states in the Southeast, we currently govern two. However, for a party as big as the APC, two is simply not enough. We will face the upcoming Anambra election with a well-structured approach and recover as many states as possible in favor of our party,” Ganduje asserted.

Winning Anambra, he added, would significantly bolster the APC’s influence in the Southeast and further unify the geopolitical zone under a more cohesive governance structure, making it a priority for the party’s future success.

With preparations already underway, the APC is gearing up for what could be one of the most fiercely contested elections in Anambra’s history, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown.
