As the Enugu State Local Government elections draw near, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Aninri Local Government Area, has officially kicked off his campaign. Addressing a large crowd at Nenwe Ward 1 and Ndeabor Ward on Tuesday, Nwanjoku vowed to unite the people of Aninri and initiate massive development projects.
During the flag-off event, Nwanjoku commended the current governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, for his accomplishments during his first year and four months in office. He noted that these achievements have given the PDP a strong chance of securing victory across all 17 local government areas in the upcoming election, slated for September 21, 2024.
In his speech, Prince Nwanjoku laid out his vision for Aninri Local Government Area, promising substantial infrastructural development. He emphasized his commitment to revitalizing moribund infrastructure, which he believes will create job opportunities and improve the quality of life for residents. Nwanjoku assured his supporters that he would leave behind a legacy of impactful projects during his tenure.
As part of his campaign promises, Nwanjoku pledged to immortalize notable figures who played a role in the creation of Aninri Local Government from the old Awgu LGA. These figures include the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and the late Igwe Onyioha Nwanjoku, the first traditional ruler of Ohofia Ndumeze Kingdom in Oduma. By honoring these individuals, Nwanjoku hopes to preserve their legacy for future generations.
In addition to infrastructure, Nwanjoku promised to replicate the state’s monthly women’s prayer for Governor Mbah within the council and foster unity among the people of Aninri, seeing this as key to the area's overall progress.
The event drew enthusiastic support from party faithful, with many voicing their confidence in Nwanjoku’s leadership and vision for the future of Aninri.
While the election approaches, Prince Nwanjoku continues to rally support from various wards and communities, positioning himself as a unifying figure with a strong developmental agenda.
