In an official announcement made by the Enugu State Development Association (ESDA), in partnership with the state government, Enugu State will be celebrating its 33rd anniversary on August 27, 2024, with a major event at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, the celebration will honor the state’s founding fathers, highlight achievements under various administrations, and set a new vision for continued progress and peace in the region.

Hurray! Enugu State at 33!
The Enugu State Development Association (ESDA), in collaboration with the Enugu State Government, proudly announces the 33rd Anniversary Celebration of the creation of Enugu State. This significant event will take place on Tuesday, the 27th of August, 2024, at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, starting at 10:00 AM.
This year’s celebration is a momentous occasion to reflect on the journey of our beloved state since its creation on August 27, 1991, by the then Military President of Nigeria, Brigadier General Ibrahim Babangida GCFR (rtd). It offers an opportunity to honor our founding fathers, celebrate the achievements of successive administrations, acknowledge our challenges, and chart a new course for a more prosperous and peaceful Enugu State.
Special Guest of Honour: His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State.
Royal Father of the Day: HRM Igwe Sir Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers.
This socio-cultural event will bring together dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, and citizens from across the state to celebrate our rich history and to express our collective support for the current administration’s efforts in transforming Enugu State. Governor Peter Mbah has shown remarkable leadership in his short time in office, with notable achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security.
