ENUGU LG ELECTIONS: REV. EDEH URGES RELEVANT STAKEHOLDERS TO CALM THE ONGOING TENSION

As Enugu State approaches its highly anticipated Local Government Elections, Rev. Amb. Emmanuel Edeh, Chairman of the Apex Christian Body in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Enugu State Chapter, has called on all relevant stakeholders and key players to take immediate action to alleviate the mounting tension surrounding the electoral process. His plea comes amidst growing concerns over the heat and discord generated by the ongoing Ward Congresses and the overall election environment.

Rev. Edeh has voiced significant apprehension regarding the current state of unrest. The clergyman has observed that the election process, particularly the Ward Congresses, has led to an increase in conflicts and disputes among aspirants, with numerous petitions and complaints emerging. He notes that the contentious atmosphere and dissatisfaction among parties have created an environment that threatens the peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections.

Highlighting the intensity of the situation, Rev. Edeh likens the current turmoil to the fervor typically associated with state governorship elections. He stresses that such heightened tensions could potentially escalate into a larger crisis if not addressed promptly and effectively.

In his appeal, Rev. Edeh urges political stakeholders to adopt a fatherly approach rather than acting as arbiters of fate. He calls for a God-fearing and compassionate attitude from all involved in the electoral process to ensure the stability and peace of the state. His message is clear: political leaders and stakeholders must prioritize the welfare of the community over personal or party interests.

The clergyman also emphasizes the importance of addressing the grievances of aggrieved parties. He asserts that the relevant authorities must take decisive steps to resolve conflicts and mitigate tensions to prevent any potential disruptions to the electoral process.

Rev Amb Edeh also advised that this Grassroots Elections should rather serve as an opportunity to Recover all lost grounds, Restore the trust and confidence of the electorate, Rebuild all the broken or faulty structures and Reassure the masses of equity, fairness, justice and inclusiveness which are the key principles and practices in democracy

Rev. Edeh expresses concern that the current climate of tension and discontent is being ignored, with stakeholders remaining silent in the face of a brewing crisis. He urges all parties involved to actively engage in dialogue and work towards a peaceful resolution to ensure that the elections are conducted smoothly and fairly.

He concludes his statement with a plea for unity and peace, underscoring that the stability of Enugu State’s new administration under His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah depends on the collective efforts of all stakeholders to maintain a peaceful and harmonious electoral environment, which will help our Governor to continue and complete the innovative transformation of our dear Enugu State.

Rev. Edeh’s call for calm and unity serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of peace and stability in the electoral process. As Enugu State navigates through this critical period, it is imperative that all stakeholders heed the clergyman’s advice and work together to address grievances, reduce tensions, and foster a peaceful atmosphere. Only through collective effort and responsible leadership can the state ensure a successful and harmonious electoral process.
