On July 26, 2024, the serene hill city of Ngwo was transformed into a hub of activity as Chief Uche Nnaji, the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, led a large and distinguished crowd to honor the late Elder Samuel Onyia, the father of Rt Rev Dr. Christian Onyia, Bishop of the Diocese of Nike, Anglican Communion.The ceremony was marked by the presence of notable figures from various sectors, underscoring the significant impact of Elder Onyia's life and the high regard in which his family is held. The event drew men and women from all walks of life to Enugu, highlighting the deep connections within the community and the wider region.
The Prelate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, spearheaded a delegation of bishops from numerous states across Nigeria, accompanied by friends, family, and a multitude of congregants. Christian faithful from different denominations attended in large numbers, dressed in beautiful attire representing their respective dioceses. The turnout included captains of industry, chief executives, top government officials, and prominent Christian entertainers, creating a sea of heads in Ngwo town.
Chief Uche Nnaji NWAKIBIE, known for his humility and infectious smile, arrived at Enugu airport with business leaders and top political figures from Abuja. He was warmly welcomed by APC party faithfuls from Enugu State and the South East zone, who joyfully accompanied him to Ngwo.The motorcade, filled with cheerful well-wishers waving to the locals, was a spectacle to behold. It resembled a parade, reflecting the joy and respect the community holds for both Chief Nnaji and the late Elder Onyia.
In Ngwo, Chief Nnaji led a delegation that included many dignitaries such as Chief Ugo Agballa, the APC chairman; Princess Ada Ogbu, the APC senatorial candidate in the 2023 election; Comrade Edeh, a veteran national labor leader and pro-chancellor/Chairman Governing Council of University of Agriculture, Umudike; as well as businessmen, federal board chairmen, and directors of various government agencies.Chief Nnaji's visit was marked by warm interactions with leaders of various Christian churches, who recognized him as a distinguished business magnate with a reputable political profile known for his kindness and peaceful disposition.
At Bishop Onyia’s residence, Chief Nnaji and his entourage were graciously received by the bishop’s family. The bishop’s wife, accompanied by immediate family members, expressed deep gratitude to Chief Nnaji and his team for honoring the invitation. She highlighted the divinely ordained friendship between her husband and Chief Nnaji as a blessing from God. Chief Nnaji expressed his appreciation to the family and the Prelate, acknowledging the blessings brought to Enugu through the Prelate's visit.
The ceremony concluded with Chief Nnaji taking photographs with the Prelate and many guests, marking the event as a celebration of life and legacy. Elder Samuel Onyia, who passed away at the venerable age of 94, was celebrated as a man who lived a fulfilled life, leaving behind a legacy worthy of honor and celebration.
