Enugu State is set to embark on a transformative journey in agriculture with the launch of Enugu AGRICTECH 2024, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing the state's agricultural landscape. The project, themed "COME LEARN, INVEST, AND GROW," was announced by Hon. Giovanni Chinonyelum Madubuaku, Coordinator of AGRICTECH 2024, as a pivotal component of the Enugu State Agriculture Transformation and Development Plan.
The AGRICTECH 2024 project, described as a realistic approach towards agriculture transformation and development, promises to deliver significant advantages to the agricultural sector in Enugu State. Hon. Madubuaku outlined the multifaceted benefits that the project will bring to the state, focusing on innovation, training, and economic growth.
One of the key initiatives of AGRICTECH 2024 is the training of youths in the local manufacturing of agro-processing machines. This training aims to address the challenges of agro-processing by equipping young people with the skills to manufacture essential machinery. By the end of the training program, six micro agro-processing fabrication plants will be established across the state's regions, fostering local industry and employment.
AGRICTECH 2024 will also introduce training on biogas technology, providing biogas-powered driers for both the proposed agro-processing zones and rural communities. This sustainable energy solution will enhance the efficiency and environmental friendliness of agricultural practices in the state.
A dedicated exhibition on seeds and seedlings will introduce participants to the right varieties for cultivation. This initiative will ensure that farmers have access to high-quality seeds and the knowledge necessary for successful cultivation, leading to improved crop yields and agricultural productivity.
Training on the production of organic fertilizers and organic farming methods will position Enugu State as a leader in organic agriculture. This approach will reduce farming costs, lower food prices, and create valuable export opportunities, contributing to the state's economic growth.
The project will offer training on irrigation and greenhouse farming, encouraging youths to utilize local rivers for irrigation. This will enable year-round farming, ensuring consistent food production and supply in the state.
An exhibition showcasing the latest in mechanized farming equipment will provide solutions to the challenges of modern agriculture. Participants will have the opportunity to explore and acquire cutting-edge machinery that will enhance their farming operations.
Hon. Madubuaku emphasized that these activities will significantly boost the economy of Enugu State, creating jobs, increasing agricultural productivity, and fostering sustainable development.
The AGRICTECH 2024 project is brought to you by Organic Solutions Agro Multi-Purpose Cooperative Ltd and its partners, in association with the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, Enugu.
