For the Community
Recall the evening of April 29, 2024, suspected Fulani herdsmen launched a devastating attack on the Nimbo community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State. The attack left four dead and many others critically injured. Sources report that the herdsmen descended on mourners at Ugwujoro Nimbo, creating a scene of chaos and bloodshed.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying events, stating that the invaders caught the villagers by surprise, opening fire indiscriminately at the mourners. Videos from the scene depict a landscape of devastation, with tables and chairs scattered and lifeless bodies lying in pools of blood. The brutality of the attack has left the community in shock, with many residents fleeing to neighboring communities out of fear.
This recent tragedy is a painful reminder of the community's previous encounters with violence. In April 2016, over 500 armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Ukpabi-Nimbo, targeting seven villages: Ekwuru, Nimbo-Ngwoko, Ugwuijoro, Ebor, Enugu-Nimbo, Umuome, and Ugwuachara. The massacre left scores of innocent villagers dead, marking one of the deadliest attacks by the Fulani herdsmen, a group ranked as the fourth deadliest terror group globally.
