...Hon Ubru reiterates Governments dedication to enhance agricultural development and food security.

It is a new dawn for agricultural productivity in Enugu State as the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-industrialisation in partnership with Ella Lake PLC, launched a significant empowerment initiative aimed at revitalizing rice farming in the Adani region. This initiative, unveiled in a ceremony attended by key stakeholders and dignitaries, underscores the state’s commitment to restoring Adani’s historic productivity levels in rice cultivation.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This is a way of putting seeds in the hands of our farmers. We are now set to return to the high productivity days that Adani has been known for." Hon. Ubru emphasized the ambitious target set by the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, for rice farmers to produce between 600,000 and 1,000,000 metric tonnes of rice. This target, he noted, is a testament to the administration's dedication to agricultural development and food security.

Chuka Mordi, the Managing Director and CEO of Ella Lake PLC, elaborated on the joint venture's goals, saying, "We are here because Ella Lake PLC is in a joint venture with the Enugu State government to develop Ada Rice and transform it into a stable crop processing zone area. This is the take-off of the project, and we have agreed with the government to sponsor 1,200 farmers in that cluster, empowering them with rice seedlings to improve their yields and help sustain modern agricultural practices."

The initiative, which is poised to significantly boost rice production in the region, involves the provision of high-quality rice seedlings, access to modern agricultural techniques, and ongoing support for the farmers. This collaboration aims to create a sustainable agricultural model that will not only enhance productivity but also improve the livelihoods of the local farmers.

By fostering such partnerships and focusing on empowering the grassroots level of the agricultural sector, Enugu State is positioning itself as a leader in agro-industrialisation. The project is expected to serve as a blueprint for other regions aiming to enhance their agricultural output and achieve self-sufficiency in food production.

The launch event was a significant step towards realizing these goals, bringing together government officials, private sector partners, and the farming community in a shared vision of agricultural prosperity. As the project progresses, it is anticipated to transform Adani into a hub of rice production, contributing significantly to the state's economy and ensuring food security for its citizens.

The empowerment of rice farmers in Adani marks the beginning of a new era in Enugu State's agricultural landscape, driven by innovation, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.
