ESUT VC, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, Sets Dates for Mother's Burial


Enugu State University of Science and Technology's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, is making arrangements to bid farewell to his late mother, Ezinne Lucy Okolie, in a ceremonious four-day funeral, slated to commence on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

Ezinne Lucy Okolie, a revered figure known for her exemplary life and community service, passed away on March 5, 2024, at the age of 81. Her legacy as a virtuous and kind-hearted matriarch has left an indelible mark on those who knew her.

Dignitaries from across the state and beyond are expected to converge in Awgu, Enugu State, to honor and celebrate the life of the beloved mother fondly referred to as "Nnemuruora" - mother for all.

The burial rites will commence with a wake, mass, and entertainment at St. Michael’s Cathedral premises in Awgu on Tuesday, May 14th, at 5.00pm, and will extend till Sunday, May 19, 2024.

On Thursday, May 16th, 2024, the somber yet dignified procession will begin at 8.00am, as the late Ezinne Lucy Okolie's body departs from the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre Mortuary to her home in Awgu town. The body will lie in state at her husband’s compound in Awgu Town, allowing friends, family, and well-wishers to pay their respects.

Later that day, a solemn funeral mass will take place at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Awgu Town, followed by the internment of Ezinne Lucy Okolie. Guests will then gather at the cathedral premises for reception and condolences.

Saturday, May 18th, 2024, will continue the tradition of condolence visits at her compound in Awgu Town, offering an opportunity for further remembrance and support.

Finally, on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, a Thanksgiving Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Awgu Town, commemorating the life and legacy of Ezinne Lucy Okolie.

The late matriarch is survived by her children, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives, all of whom will gather to honor her memory and celebrate a life well-lived.
