Enugu State Govt Inaugurates Steering and Technical Committees on Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS)


The Enugu State Government has officially inaugurated the State Steering Committee (SSC) and State Technical Committee (STC) for the Enugu State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS). This move aligns with the Project Implementation Arrangements Plan at the state level, aimed at ensuring the project's success.


The State Steering Committee, chaired by the Commissioner of Agriculture, includes representatives from various ministries and agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Gender, NAFDAC, NIAS, and the Farmers and Herders Association.


The State Technical Committee, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, comprises representatives from relevant sectors and is responsible for monitoring the program's progress and implementation.


During the inauguration, Dr. Victor Udeh, the Chief of Staff to the Enugu State Government, represented by Mr. Ken Chukwuegbo, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his dedication to the project. He urged the SSC to strictly adhere to their roles, providing strategic orientation and policy guidance to ensure the project aligns with sector policies and priorities.


The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Patrick Ubru, commended Governor Mbah for making Enugu State a participant in the L-PRESS project, emphasizing the importance of livestock in the agricultural sector and food value chain.


Dr. Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze, the State Project Coordinator, lauded the Governor for fostering an environment conducive to livestock farming. She highlighted the project's goal of improving productivity, commercialization, and resilience in livestock production systems. Dr. Nnajieze emphasized that L-PRESS aims to support livestock producers and agribusinesses in adapting to climate change through enhanced service delivery, extension services, and the adoption of climate-smart technologies.


She assured that the project's benefits would reach the profiled livestock producers, projecting that Enugu State would become a significant economic hub for livestock production and exportation by the project's end, boosting revenue and investment returns.
