The spirit of Easter was alive and well in Udenu Local Government Area as the Ikechukwu Ezeugwu Foundation, led by Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu PhD, marked the holiday with a remarkable display of generosity and community spirit. Held at the founder's hometown, the event drew a diverse crowd of community members, clergy, friends, and well-wishers eager to participate in the festivities.
The event commenced with a solemn opening prayer led by Rev Fr Makata John, setting a tone of reverence and gratitude. Following this, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu PhD, former member of the Enugu House of Assembly, delivered a heartfelt opening remark, emphasizing the significance of giving back to society, especially in times of abundance. Moved by his deep affection for the masses, Hon. Ezeugwu underscored the importance of sharing one's blessings with those in need.
The atmosphere was vibrant with the sounds of laughter and music as guests enjoyed a variety of activities and refreshments. Traditional masquerades added to the merriment, captivating the crowd with their colorful performances. At the heart of the event was the distribution of essential food items to widows, village women, and other members of the community. Bags of rice, cartons of noodles, tubers of yam, and other provisions were distributed generously, reflecting Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu's unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents. Through the Ikechukwu Ezeugwu Foundation, Hon. Ezeugwu has made significant contributions to education, housing, and infrastructure development, earning the admiration of many.
In an exclusive interview with Naija Trends, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu expressed his gratitude to God and his profound satisfaction in bringing joy to the lives of his people. When questioned about the inspiration behind his foundation and his philosophy in politics, he reiterated his commitment to prioritizing the needs of his constituency and effecting positive change through both philanthropy and governance.
He stated; "when I ventured into politics, I promised my constituency that I would change the narrative by first becoming a philanthropist and putting my constituency first. After winning the election, I decided to pay back for their trust, hence, I established the foundation you know today as Ikechukwu Ezeugwu Foundation, a gesture that I have continued to sustain over time and will continue it as God keeps us alive".
Explaining the choice of Easter for the event, Hon. Ezeugwu emphasized his desire to forge his own path and make a meaningful impact during the festive season. He highlighted the importance of addressing the basic needs of the populace, especially in times of economic hardship, and outlined plans for future empowerment initiatives aimed at fostering self-reliance and skill development.
Hon Ezeugwu added that coming into politics, he has been exposed to the ordeal of the masses; "a lot of people are finding it difficult to feed so I know ws it is a necessity to assist such people in providing the most basic needs (in this case, food Items and condiments) and soon the masses are going to witness the empowerment of more people into skill acquisition courses, such as; tailoring, creating businesses and continual mentorship" he said.
The occasion was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Prof. Malachy Okwueze, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ikechukwu Ezeugwu Foundation, Comrade Obetta Harrison Ejike, President General of the Igugu Town Union, Mr. Dave Ezeugwu, among others.
