Enugu State Gov't Imposes Movement Restrictions Ahead of Rerun Elections

In anticipation of the forthcoming rerun elections slated for Saturday, February 3, 2024, the Enugu State Government has announced a temporary restriction of movement in specific areas. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to oversee the rerun elections in Enugu South Urban State Constituency and Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency. 

To facilitate a smooth and secure electoral process, Enugu State Government has mandated a cessation of vehicular movement within Enugu South LGA, Igboeze North LGA, and Udenu LGA from 12 midnight to 6 pm on the aforementioned date. Exceptions will be made for individuals engaged in election-related or essential services, including INEC officials, election observers, health workers, ambulances, and firefighters on emergency duties. 

While acknowledging potential inconveniences, residents are urged to comply with the directive to ensure the integrity and peaceful conduct of the electoral exercise. Security agencies have been briefed and tasked with enforcing the order, with strict measures in place to restrict unauthorized access to election venues.

 Restriction of Movement Over Rerun Elections


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct rerun elections in Enugu South Urban State Constituency and Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency on Saturday, February 3, 2024.


Accordingly, to ensure orderly and hitch-free elections, the Enugu State Government  has ordered a restriction of movement in the following Local Government Areas (LGA) namely: Enugu South LGA, Igboeze North LGA, and Udenu LGA.


There shall be no vehicular movement on the roads and or any form of transportation in the aforenamed LGAs from 12 midnight to 6pm on Saturday, February 3, with the exception of persons on election or essential services such as INEC Officials and Election Observers as well as health workers, ambulances and firefighters on emergency duties.


While the temporary inconveniences  are regretted, Ndi Enugu are enjoined to adhere to the directive for the free, fair, credible, orderly, secure, and peaceful conduct of the elections.


Security agencies have been briefed and are to ensure the enforcement of the order, while all security agents not formerly posted to election duties by their respective agencies are barred from the vicinity of the election venues.
