The International Day of Zero Tolerance for female genital mutilation (FGM), is observed annually on the 6th of February, it provides an opportunity for all stakeholders involved in ending FGM to celebrate achievements, advocate for abandonment of the practice and raise awareness.
It is on this note that the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, commemorated the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on Tuesday with a series of impactful events, such as radio tour, and other social media engagements.
During her live radio chat on ESBS 96.1FM, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih delivered a heartfelt address marking the 2024 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, highlighting the importance of collective action in eradicating FGM and ensuring the rights and well-being of all girls and women.
As part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to combat FGM, directed "Her Voice, Her Future!" campaign, calling on all residents of Enugu State to join the fight against FGM and support survivors in reclaiming their lives. "through a united front, we seek to amplify the voices of survivors and advocate for policies that protect the rights of girls and women"
Hon. Enih call for awareness across Enugu State, with emphasies on educational seminars, community dialogues, and interactive workshops where stakeholders, community leaders, and survivors of FGM should gathered to reaffirm their commitment to ending this harmful practice. "these steps will empower individuals with knowledge about the dangers of FGM and provide support to survivors"
In her statement, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih expressed her unwavering commitment to campaign against FGM, stating, "On this International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, let us stand together in solidarity with survivors, and reaffirm our dedication to creating a future where every girl and woman is free from the threat of FGM. Together, we can build a world where her voice is heard, and her future is bright." She said.
The Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development urged everyone to join in call to action to STOP FGM and create a safer, more inclusive society for all.
