Finally, NCAA Lifts Ban on United Nigeria Airlines' Wet-Leased Aircraft

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially lifted the suspension imposed on the Part G operations specifications of a wet-leased Airbus aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines. This decision follows the temporary diversion of the airline's flight NUA 0504 bound for Abuja to Asaba, which led to the initial suspension.

A letter from the NCAA's Director of Licensing and Training, Captain I.B Danbazzau, addressed to the Managing Director of United Nigeria Airlines, outlined the findings of the investigation and provided specific recommendations. The letter stated that, based on the outcomes, the suspension has now been lifted.

Recall that the airline was ealier banned, following the diversion incident, which gained widespread attention on social media, Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Musa Nuhu, convened an emergency meeting. During this session, it was determined that the airline's explanation for the diversion was deemed insufficient by the authority.

However, the airline is expected to adhere strictly to the guidelines outlined in the Nigeria Civil Aviation All Operators letter (DG 15/2023), referenced NCAA/DGCA/AIR/11/16/347. This marks a significant development for United Nigeria Airlines, signaling the resolution of the regulatory concerns that led to the suspension.

As the airline resumes normal operations, the aviation community will be closely monitoring compliance and adherence to safety protocols to ensure the continued safety of air travel.
