DISCLAIMER: Enugu State House of Assembly Affirms Current Leadership Structure Against Rumours of Change of Chief Whip

In response to recent media reports suggesting a change in leadership, the Enugu State House of Assembly has issued a disclaimer reaffirming the existing structure. Contrary to claims that Hon Chukwuma Ekwueme emerged as the Chief Whip following the court of Appeal's decision to sack some Labour Party lawmakers, the assembly clarifies that Hon Ejike Eze retains the position.

Our correspondent investigated the matter, reaching out to lawmakers for insights. One anonymous lawmaker stated, "There's no leadership change in the House yet. While there is a shift in the number of PDP and Labour Party members, no alterations to any positions in the House are known to me."

The reported changes in party composition indicate that the PDP holds 12 seats, the Labour Party has 11, and one seat is subject to a rerun ordered by the court of Appeal. The rerun in Enugu South Urban, specifically between Sam Ngene of the PDP and Bright Ngene of the Labour Party, currently shows the Labour Party candidate leading with over 3,000 votes. The outcome of this rerun will determine whether the PDP secures an outright majority or if both parties will have an equal number of lawmakers. The assembly aims to quell any misconceptions and emphasize the stability of its current leadership dynamics.
