The air in Amagunze was filled with joy and festivities as Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, the esteemed Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, was bestowed with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Akobundu 1. The recognition came during a culturally rich event organized by HRH Igwe Christopher Nnam Nwafor of Amagunze, marking the maiden cultural/Ofalla festival.
Distinguished guests, including the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr Peter Mbah, and the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uche Ugwu, gathered to witness the conferment of titles upon outstanding personalities, highlighting Hon. Edeh's noteworthy contributions and leadership in Nkanu East.
The Chairman expressed gratitude, pledging to uphold the responsibilities that accompany the esteemed title while emphasizing his commitment to serving the people with dedication and passion.
The occasion which was full of pomps and peagentries was attended by people from all walks of life. They gathered to celebrate with the traditional ruler, recipients of the chieftaincy titles and the good people of Amagunze. The well attended event by notable sons and daughters of the community and their friends witnessed the conferment of chieftaincy titles on some prominent personalities in the town and friends of the community. Among the recipients of the chieftaincy titles were Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr Peter Mbah, Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uche Ugwu, Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area and ALGON Chairman, Hon.. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, Chief Evarest Nnaji (Odengene ) among others.
Before the conferment of the title, HRH Igwe Christopher Nnam Nwafor stated: “I took the decision to confer historical titles on these prominent and proud Nkanu son, (Hon. Edeh) because of his contribution to society and outstanding leadership qualities as Nkanu East LGA chairman.
“We are proud of you. Please keep up the spirit.
The Chairman on his part while appreciating the Igwè and his community said, "I am committed to upholding the values and responsibilities that comes with this esteemed title. I will continue to serve ndị Nkanu East with dedication, integrity, and passion. Your support and guidance have been invaluable, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities that lie ahead." "Once again, thank you for bestowing this great honor upon me. I am forever grateful to be a part of this esteemed group of leaders."
The Chairman was accompanied to the event by dignitaries, notable among them were Hon Okey Mbah member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Patty Okoh state youth leader PDP Enugu State, Hon Uche Mbah(Alhaji) , coordinator of administrators in Nkanu East, Nkanu East council secretary and among others. The Governor was represented by the Special Adviser on political matters Hon frank Anioma.
