On September 30th, a three-member panel led by Honourable Justice Adie Attoe Onyebueke delivered a verdict on a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party's candidate, Solomon Izuchukwu Onah, popularly known as JAC Solo. The court determined that the Labour Party candidate was ineligible for the election, citing his failure to resign from his position at the University of Nigeria Nsukka within the required timeframe as per the new electoral act.
Unsatisfied with the initial judgment, the ousted Labour Party candidate sought recourse at the appeal court to challenge the tribunal's decision.
However, the appellate court, in its ruling today, dismissed the appeal, citing a lack of merit and affirming the lower court's decision. Consequently, the Court has mandated the electoral commission to issue a certificate of return to Hon. Onah, securing his position as the legitimate representative for Udenu Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
