The Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET), a prominent women advocacy civil society group, has commended Governor Peter Mbah and his wife in Enugu State for their swift response and financial assistance in settling the hospital bills of a survivor. The commendation comes after the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, led by Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, under the Enugu State Government, played a crucial role in ensuring justice and medical care for the victim of domestic abuse.
Ambassador Mrs. Amaka Nweke JP, the founder of WOSCONET, expressed her appreciation for Governor Peter Mbah and his wife, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, for their active involvement in this case through the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development.
Furthermore, Ambassador Nweke and her team visited the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Park Lane, to personally thank Prof. Bertrand Ngwu, the Chief Medical Director. Prof. Ngwu's commitment to ensuring the victim received proper medical attention and care was paramount in achieving justice.
The incident that prompted this support began when WOSCONET brought to the attention of the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development the case of Mrs. Patience Nwachukwu (Née Edeh), who suffered severe brutality at the hands of her husband, Mr. Evidence Ugochukwu Nwachukwu, just two weeks ago.
This unfortunate incident took a tragic turn, resulting in the loss of Mrs. Nwachukwu's five-month pregnancy due to the assault she endured. Fortunately, the swift intervention by the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development played a pivotal role in saving her life.
The severity of the situation became evident as it was revealed that the assailant physically attacked Mrs. Nwachukwu, leading to the tragic loss of her pregnancy. The violence escalated to the point where she was pushed from their room, causing a traumatic fall onto a block outside their house.
The support provided by the Governor and his wife, in collaboration with WOSCONET and the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, highlights the importance of collective efforts in addressing domestic violence and providing assistance to victims in their time of need.
