This initiative, spearheaded by Comr. Adaeze Anita Isamade, the Deputy Chairman of NYCN Enugu Chapter, is aimed at empowering girls with valuable skills to enhance their self-sufficiency and contribute to the nation's economic development.
The event, a first of its kind, was widely praised for its impact-oriented approach, as it promises to equip many young girls with practical skills to empower themselves and their families. The flag-off ceremony, chaired by the State Council Chairman, Comr. Batholomew Ebuka Okoh, represented by his Chief of Staff, Comr. Ogbu Abuchi (Ebubechukwuzo), marked the beginning of this transformative initiative.
Comr. Adaeze Anita, the driving force behind this endeavor, emphasized the importance of girls acquiring handy skills, underscoring their potential to become successful entrepreneurs and financially independent women. Learning these skills at a young age not only boosts their self-esteem but also prepares them for the responsibilities of womanhood.
The three-day event commenced on October 7th, starting with sports activities and theory classes on bakery, Zobo drink production, tigernut drink preparation, and pineapple juice extraction. Day two will feature practical classes where participants will hone their skills, while the main event on October 11th, the International Day of the Girl Child celebration, will cap off this empowering program.
The benefits of these skills extend beyond the individual girls, positively impacting their families and society as a whole. Skills empowerment leads to enhanced economic development, improved education opportunities for the next generation, and healthier families. Moreover, it enables girls to participate in decision-making processes, contributing to a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
Comr. Adaeze Anita expressed her commitment to making this an annual event, with the hope that it will become a lasting policy for future administrations. The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) plays a vital role in advancing youth development and promoting peace, unity, and tolerance in the country. The Grand Finale will hold on Tuesday, 11th of October, 2023 @ Gymnasium Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu by 10am.
The NYCN, established in 1964 and legally recognized in 1990, serves as the voice of Nigerian youth, with branches at the national, zonal, and state levels. Affiliated with global youth organizations, the NYCN has been instrumental in empowering youth through scholarships and support programs, contributing to the nation's development.
As the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child approaches, the Enugu Chapter of NYCN is paving the way for a brighter, more empowered future for young girls in Nigeria, setting a precedent for others to follow.
