In a step towards transforming the economic landscape of South Eastern Nigeria with the groundbreaking ceremony for the region's first-ever seaport, the governor of Abia State Alex Otti flagged-off the first ever seaport project in the South East region.
The historic event took place on September 30, 2023, in Owazza, Ụkwa East Local Government Area of Abia State.
Governor Otti made this groundbreaking announcement during the South-East Security Summit held in Owerri, Imo State, emphasizing the importance of regional development and economic diversification.
The ambitious seaport project, which will be complemented by the Abia Industrial and Innovation Park, spanning over 1,000 hectares of land, is set to usher in a new era of prosperity for the region. This integrated development will house a multitude of businesses, including modular refineries, petrochemical plants, and fertilizer production facilities, fostering economic growth and job creation.
Governor Otti underscored the strategic advantages of the seaport's location, with its proximity to Aba and Port Harcourt cities and the abundant oil and gas reserves in the Ukwa region. He revealed that his administration had already secured the support of a major stakeholder to establish an innovation and incubation center within the park, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
