In his bid to bolstering development and service delivery, 44 Special Assistants (SAs) and 10 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) has officially appointed in Owan West and Owan East Local Government Areas in Edo State by Governor Godwin Obaseki. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Edo State College of Education in Afuze.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Obaseki emphasized the need for a transformation in the realm of politics in the country. He stressed the importance of shifting the focus towards genuine service, development, and improving the lives of the people.
Governor Obaseki declared, "I am here to tell you that I care about you, and it will not be business as usual. I will take care of you. Politics must change; politics is about the people, and politicians must genuinely care for their people. Enough is enough. We cannot say we are in politics and are poorer for it. Politics must help us to escape poverty."
He further underscored that these newly appointed Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants would not be absentee in their roles. He pledged to maintain a close eye on their activities, ensuring that they work diligently in their respective communities. Governor Obaseki expressed his commitment to having a Special Assistant or Senior Special Assistant in every ward, serving as his "eyes and ears" to report on various aspects, including education, healthcare, security, and the well-being of the people.
In his remarks, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, lauded the unwavering support of the people of Owan West and Owan East local government areas. He recognized their pivotal role in securing victory for the party in the last local government elections in the State.
This development signifies a fresh commitment to grassroots engagement and effective governance, as the newly appointed Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants take on the responsibility of driving progress and improving the lives of the residents in their respective wards and communities.
