A Nine-Man Team representing the University of East London (UEL) United Kingdom Alumni Network in Nigeria, led by Engr. Ambrose Nwodoh, an esteemed alumnus of UEL, paid a courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on Thursday, 13th September, 2023. The Lion Building, which houses the State House, provided the backdrop for this significant occasion.
The UEL Alumni Network presented Governor Mbah with a 'Congratulatory Plaque' and adorned him with the prestigious 'UEL Lapel Pin' as a token of their deep respect and unity. Each member of the delegation introduced themselves, and Engr. Nwodoh, speaking on their behalf, praised Governor Mbah's remarkable achievements within his first 100 days in office. They commended his dedication to fostering growth, peace, and stability throughout Enugu State.
The Alumni members expressed their unwavering support for Governor Mbah, particularly during the ongoing election petitions, wishing for victory to prevail. In response, Governor Mbah expressed his gratitude for their familial gestures, reminiscing about his time at UEL and his journey to leadership as the Executive Governor of Enugu State.
Governor Mbah outlined several key projects aimed at transforming the state, including designating 300,000 hectares of land for agriculture, improving waste management, and digitizing state MDAs for better revenue collection. He emphasized the importance of modernizing the educational system from primary to secondary schools, introducing smart schools to nurture digital skills from a young age. Notably, he addressed the challenge of providing portable water to the state, with plans to reach a capacity of 100 million liters a day by the end of 2023.
Governor Mbah encouraged Alumni members to continue exhibiting outstanding leadership traits and expressed his interest in collaborating with them to achieve his ambitious goals for the citizens of Enugu State. In response, the Alumni members expressed their appreciation for the opportunity and offered their condolences for the passing of Governor Mbah's mother-in-law, Late Mrs. Lolo Chinyere Lovelyn Mbah, whose funeral they attended in Imo State.
The visit was marked by warm receptions at both events, and transportation arrangements were smoothly executed. Dr. Mrs. Nnesochi Nweze-Iloekwe and Miss Elizabeth Paul, representing the Alumni group, presented the Governor with the 'Congratulatory Plaque' and the 'UEL Lapel Pin.'
Notable Alumni members in attendance included Chinyere Ogbodo, Dr. Alex Akwaeze, Mr. Lawrence Chukwuma, Engr. Edozie Iloekwe, NwaIgwe Michael, and Prof. Issa Abdulraheem, Director of the University of Abuja Business School, who took the opportunity to introduce his new book titled 'Academic Entrepreneurship in Nigeria, A Book of Reading' and invited all Alumni Network members to its launch in Abuja on the 23rd of September, 2023.
