Enugu State Deaf and Hard of Hearing Women Association (ESDWA) Pays Courtesy Visit to Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development


In a display of solidarity and a commitment to furthering the cause of their community, the Enugu State Deaf and Hard of Hearing Women Association (ESDWA) paid a Courtesy Visit to the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023.

The association's Chairperson, Melody Chuba Uzo Nweke, eloquently expressed the purpose of their visit. She conveyed that it was their profound desire to establish a connection with the Honorable Commissioner, presenting both their organization and its leaders. Their primary objective was to introduce their programs and goals while seeking a meaningful partnership with the Ministry to advance their mission and vision for further development.

Chuba Uzo, the leader of ESDWA, emphasized the importance of inclusivity and urged the Ministry to actively involve their members. She revealed that the association had already registered 110 members, with numbers steadily increasing.

The delegation showered praises on Honorable Mrs. Ngozi Enih for her warm reception and lauded the event as a historic moment, marking the beginning of a collaborative journey between their association and the government.

In her response, Commissioner Mrs. Ngozi Enih extended a warm welcome to the visiting group, applauding them for their thoughtful gesture in aligning themselves with the Ministry's mission. She emphasized the government's commitment to empowering women and advised the association to complete their registration with the Ministry. 

Furthermore, she directed them to register with the Enugu State Ministry of Human Capital Development Poverty Eradication to ensure their inclusion in government benefits, including palliatives.

This meeting between the Enugu State Deaf and Hard of Hearing Women Association and the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development marks a promising step towards improved support and recognition for this vital community in the state.
