DG/CEO National Commission for Museums and Monuments Visits Enugu West Senator, Engr. Osita Ngwu ...As they Held Impactful Discussions on Revival of Enugu National Museum and Tourism Challenges

Prof Abba Isa Tijani, the Director General/CEO of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, paid a courtesy visit to the esteemed Senator (Engr) Osita Ngwu representing Enugu West. The meeting took place at the Senate Building within the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The focus of their discussion centered on the vital topic of tourism and its pivotal role in Nigeria's development. Both Prof Abba Isa Tijani and Senator Osita Ngwu delved into the importance of this sector and the formidable challenges it currently confronts in the country.

Senator Ngwu took the opportunity to inquire about the prolonged state of neglect that has befallen the Enugu National Museum under the stewardship of the Federal Government. This unfortunate situation has deprived numerous tourism enthusiasts and researchers in Enugu, as well as visitors from further afield, of the chance to fully explore this historical and cultural treasure.

In response, the Director General outlined some of the agency's challenges, with funding being the foremost concern. He also revealed the commission's innovative approach to revive the Enugu National Museum through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. However, he lamented the onslaught of false and baseless rumors and claims alleging the sale of museum property, which threatens the success of this endeavor.

In light of this, Senator Ngwu offered invaluable advice to the Director General. He recommended that the commission make all its plans and intentions regarding the museum open to the public, thus preventing the spread of misinformation. Additionally, he urged the commission to establish a collaborative partnership with the Enugu state government to ensure clarity in public orientation and project development.

urthermore, Senator Osita Ngwu pledged to play a pivotal role as an intermediary between the agency and the state government, facilitating constructive discussions on how to rejuvenate the Enugu National Museum for the benefit of Enugu's residents and the wider community. In conclusion, he emphasized the importance of this endeavor with the local saying, "Abia ike n'eti," signifying a collective effort towards progress.
