Biden Appoints Two Nigerian-Americans as Advisers


U.S. President Joe Biden has appointed two accomplished Nigerian-Americans to serve as advisers on the President's Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States.

The newly appointed advisers, Osagie Imasogie and Chinenye Ogwumike, join a distinguished group of 12 individuals tasked with shaping policy and initiatives related to the African diaspora community in the U.S.

Chinenye Ogwumike, a prominent figure in the sports and media industry, brings a wealth of experience to her role as an adviser. As a two-time WNBA All-Star and a full-time ESPN commentator and NBA analyst, Ogwumike has made significant strides in the world of sports and broadcasting. Her achievements include being the 2014 WNBA Rookie of the Year and becoming the first Black woman to host a national daily sports-talk radio show in August 2020. She holds an International Relations degree from Stanford University, mentored by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, and was recognized as a Forbes 30 under 30 honoree in 2021.

Osagie Imasogie, the Chairman of Quoin Capital and Quoin Advisors, has an impressive background in finance, private equity, and entrepreneurship. He co-founded PIPV Capital, a private equity firm with a focus on the life sciences industry, and has invested over $1 billion in this sector. Imasogie's career includes senior positions at pharmaceutical giants like GlaxoSmithKline and SmithKline Beecham. He is also a seasoned attorney with experience at prestigious U.S. law firm Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis. Imasogie serves on the boards of financial institutions managing billions of dollars and is deeply involved in various cultural and educational institutions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the University of Pennsylvania.

The appointment of Osagie Imasogie and Chinenye Ogwumike has been met with enthusiasm and pride within the Nigerian diaspora community. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), expressed her congratulations, emphasizing that their recognition serves as motivation for Nigerians and Africans worldwide.
