The Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET) has joined forces with the Enugu State Government and the Enugu State Voluntary Agro Training and Consultancy Initiative (ENSVATCI) to launch a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering Enugu farmers. The program, which covers a range of agro skills including fishery, poultry, crop production, snail farming, mushroom farming, and livestock feed production, is set to kick off on August 24, 2023.
Supported by the Anambra Women General Assembly, Enugu State chapter, Amaka Nweke Foundation, Kpakpando Farmers Multi- Purpose Co-operative Society Limited and the Center for Memories, this collaborative effort is in alignment with Governor Peter Mbah's visionary approach to revitalizing the agricultural sector in Enugu State.
Ambassador Mrs. Amaka Nweke JP, the Founder of WOSCONET, along with Co-Founder Hon. Mrs. Valentina Ngozi Enih, who also holds the esteemed position of Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender, and Social Development, are determined to elevate Enugu State's standing on the global agricultural stage through their combined expertise.
In anticipation of the upcoming training, Ambassador Nweke passionately articulated the potential for transformation, stating, "Do you know you can turn nothing into something after this training? Do you realize that starting small can lead to business growth? Have you considered that even the smallest of spaces can yield bountiful crops through what you will learn? Are you aware that your plastic waste can find purpose in crop production? Don't let this opportunity slip through your fingers. Our team of agricultural experts is ready to guide you both in theory and practice. Join us in this innovative agro-based training." She stated.
She went further to stress that; "As the engine of economic growth in the first Republic in Nigeria, agriculture Plays a very important role in the state because a sustainable agricultural sector literally translates to a sustainable economy. It's also clear that survival will be impossible without agriculture because agriculture does not only feed the mouth, it is also a source of income for both individuals and the government, and it has also played a vital role in the economic development of Nigeria and other third world countries. Since Barr. Peter Mbah is intentional about the agricultural sector of the state, there is a need for collective efforts in giving the state another opportunity to be rich again"
"For food security, Mbah’s administration has commenced the development of the state’s agricultural sector, so there would be food security in the state. This is because if the sector is developed, there would be sufficiency of farm product, the farm produce will be of good quality, it will be safe and even cheaper and the below-average income earners would be able to afford the three square meals in a day and by this, it will eradicate poverty in the state" She stressed.
As the countdown to the training begins, the collaboration between WOSCONET, the Enugu State Government, and ENSVATCI signifies a landmark step toward empowering local farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary for a thriving agro-based economy. The impact of this initiative is expected to resonate far beyond the confines of the training room, ultimately contributing to the broader agricultural landscape and economic growth of Enugu State.
This is a unique opportunity for Enugu farmers to seize the reins of their agricultural endeavors and pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future.
