Super Sub Wood Heads in late Winner for Foremost Against Sheff United

In a thrilling match at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest secured their first victory of the season with a late winner against Sheffield United. Substitute Chris Wood's 89th-minute header proved decisive, giving Forest a hard-fought win after both teams suffered losses on the opening day of the 2023/24 season.

The action started early as Taiwo Awoniyi netted for Forest just 2 minutes and 23 seconds into the game, heading home a cross from Serge Aurier. This goal marked Awoniyi's sixth consecutive Premier League goal for Forest, a feat not achieved since Stan Collymore in 1995.

Sheffield United, however, quickly responded in the second half, with Gustavo Hamer's brilliant strike leveling the score at 1-1 only 2 minutes and 8 seconds after the restart. Benie Traore had a golden opportunity to put the Blades ahead, but Forest's goalkeeper Matt Turner thwarted his one-on-one chance.

The match's climax arrived when Chris Wood, brought on for Awoniyi, headed in the winning goal from another Aurier cross, ending Awoniyi's run of six consecutive goals. This marked Forest's first victory of the season, leaving both teams with a win and a loss in their opening matches.

Looking ahead to the weekend, AFC Bournemouth is set to face Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers will take on Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham will host Brentford in a derby match, and Tottenham Hotspur will attempt to secure their first top-flight win against Manchester United in six attempts under the guidance of new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

The day's final clash will see reigning champions Manchester City facing Newcastle United. Both teams had impressive opening weekend wins, scoring a total of eight goals between them against Burnley and Aston Villa respectively.
