Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, has embarked on a three-day leadership retreat in Kigali, Rwanda, organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The event, fully funded by the UNDP, aims to enhance the leadership skills of the 36 state governors of Nigeria.
Scheduled from August 24 to 27, the retreat brings together distinguished facilitators from around the world to engage the governors in sessions focused on various aspects of leadership. These include exploring the future of Nigeria, contemporary leadership challenges in a rapidly changing world, the influence of digital transformation and emerging technologies on development, socio-economic transformations, revenue generation, effective communication, and more.
UNDP representative Lealem Dinku emphasized the need for a new leadership approach in tackling the challenges faced by African countries. The retreat aims to equip participants with the skills and competencies required to lead in complex and uncertain environments. Notable speakers at the event include Governors Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Chukwuma Soludo, as well as President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, former President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, and other distinguished figures.
The UNDP believes that by enhancing the leadership skills of state governors, the program will contribute to improved governance, inclusive policies, innovation, collaboration, and the ability to address emerging challenges. The agency underlines the significance of effective leadership in navigating the complexities of the modern world and shaping the future of states and nations.
