Fresh Coup D’etat: Army Takes Over Power in Gabon, Ends 53-year Rule of Bongo's Family, Cuts off Internet, Imposes Night-Curfew, Closes Borders, Gives Reasons

Gabon has joined the ranks of African nations that have witnessed a military coup in the 21st century. Today, army officers have announced the successful takeover of power, marking an end to the 53-year reign of the Bongo family. This drastic move comes in the wake of the recent election where President Ali Bongo was declared the winner for a third term, triggering accusations of electoral fraud.

The military coup was broadcasted across the nation through a televised announcement by army officers. The leader of the coup declared the nullification of the election results, citing irregularities in the polling process. President Ali Bongo's victory, which was declared by the electoral commission, has been vehemently contested by the opposition, alleging a manipulated outcome.

Ali Bongo's family has held a firm grip on Gabon for over five decades, with Ali Bongo taking over from his father who had ruled for four decades. This military intervention puts an end to this long-standing dynasty, sending shockwaves throughout the nation and the international community.

The army officers, representing various security and defense forces, outlined their reasons for the takeover. One of the senior military officials spoke on behalf of the "Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions," stating, "We have decided to defend peace by ending the current regime." The coup leaders cited concerns about the transparency and legitimacy of the election as their motivation to intervene.

The overthrow of the government led to immediate measures to control the situation. Internet services were severed, foreign broadcasts were suspended, and a night curfew was imposed across the nation. Additionally, all state institutions were dissolved, and the country's borders were promptly closed.
