The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has officially welcomed its 28th Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, psc(+), who has assumed duty, succeeding CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc. CP Ammani has been redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Hailing from the Umuaka Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, CP Kanayo V. Uzuegbu brings an impressive background to his new role. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A., Hons) from the University of Port-Harcourt, a Higher Diploma in Strategic Studies from the University of Maiduguri, and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of Nigeria.
Having joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (C/ASP), CP Uzuegbu has had a distinguished career with various assignments and positions. He has served in numerous State and Zonal Commands, Formations, and at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
His extensive experience includes being the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in several Divisions across different State Commands, Provost Marshall of the Benue State Command, and Unit/Squadron Commander of No. 15 PMF Ilorin. He also held significant roles such as the Officer in-charge of the Basic Training Wing at Police College Maiduguri, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations in Zone 9 Umuahia, and Commander of Switch Operation SOS Port-Harcourt.
CP Kanayo Uzuegbu further served as the Area Commander for Owerri and Karu Area Commands in Imo and Nasarawa States, respectively. He also held positions such as Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Administration and the State CID in Edo and Osun States’ Commands, and was the Director of the Central Planning and Training Unit (CPTU) at the Police Staff College Jos.
Before his current posting, he held the position of Commissioner of Police in-charge of Operations Communication at the Department of ICT, Force Headquarters Abuja.
With a diverse array of training and certifications, CP Uzuegbu is well-equipped for his new role. He has received training in PMF Unit Combat and Armoured Tank Tactical Maneuver Courses at PMF Training College, Gwoza, Borno State, as well as Junior and Intermediate Command and Strategic Leadership and Command Courses at the Police Staff College Jos. Additionally, he attended a Train the Trainer Course organized by the European Union (EU).
CP Kanayo V. Uzuegbu's commitment to professional development is evident through his certificates in areas such as Terrorism and Counterterrorism, Law of Armed Conflict, Security Studies, Restore Order after Hostility, Mine Evacuation, Human Rights, and Gender Equality.
A seasoned and accomplished Strategic Senior Officer, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu has over three decades of administrative and operational experience in policing. He has expressed his dedication to introducing a proactive, people-centric, and problem-solving approach to policing in Enugu State. He calls for the strong support and cooperation of the citizens of Enugu in his pursuit of effective law enforcement.
The newly appointed Commissioner of Police is a devoted Christian, happily married, and a proud parent.
