Enugu Commissioner for Health, Prof Obi, Prioritizes Health Sector Agencies in Extensive Tour


In a dynamic move to bolster healthcare services in Enugu State, Prof. Obi Emmanuel Ikechukwu, the recently re-appointed Commissioner for Health, has launched a comprehensive tour of key health sector agencies. This initiative underscores the administration's unwavering dedication to improving healthcare for the people of Enugu State.


Prof. Obi's tour aimed to reestablish his familiarity with the intricate operations of the Enugu State Ministry of Health and its affiliated entities. During his visit, he engaged with the management teams of pivotal health agencies including the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ENSPHCDA), State Hospitals Management Board (SHMB), Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage (ESAUHC), and Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane (ESUTTH).


Addressing the health sector managers, Commissioner Obi reiterated the administration's driving mantra of "Business unusual," which encapsulates the fresh approach under the leadership of Governor Dr. Peter Mbah. He stressed the government's steadfast dedication to the well-being of Enugu's citizens and its commitment to translating promises into tangible actions.


Highlighting core guiding principles, Prof. Obi emphasized transparency, traceability, accountability, disruptive innovation, optimal performance, and participatory monitoring and evaluation as values that every staff member must embrace.


Additionally, Commissioner Obi accentuated the significance of punctuality, dedication, and renewed commitment to their roles while addressing the health sector workers. He underlined their pivotal role in supporting the administration's agenda for success.


The commissioner's interest spanned the entire spectrum of the state's healthcare system, from primary healthcare to specialized and tertiary services. He affirmed that the administration's dedication reflects its determination to ensure accessible, quality healthcare throughout the state.


In a parallel development, Commissioner Obi called for comprehensive status reports from each institution, agency, department, and unit. He also mandated the submission of staff nominal rolls, including current staff locations and individual job descriptions, to his office by the end of the week.


The Commissioner's tour, conducted in collaboration with Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, signifies the government's commitment to prioritizing citizens' health and well-being.
