Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme, ENADEP is partnering with Southfield Agro Network and Enugu State Farmers Association Forum to kick off the training of Enugu State farmers on local production of organic fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide. After the kick off ceremony, ENADEP and Southfield will be organising free trainings in the 17 Local Governments Areas of Enugu State. Since December, 2022, ENADEP has been collaborating with Southfield to train more than 500 volunteers in organic farming and production of organic fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide. Organic farming is part of Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), the latest trend in agricultural production, and Good Agriculture Practice (GAP).
The Executive Governor of Enugu State, Barr.Dr.Peter Mbah is being expected as Special Guest of Honour at the Kick Off ceremony, together with many important dignitaries, including the Senator Representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly and Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro- Industrialization. Chief Ken Mbah, the Patron of Enugu State Farmers Association Forum will Chair the ceremony.
The lead presentation on the need for organic agriculture will be made by Hon. Giovanni Madubuaku while Chief Romanus Eze, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter will deliver a Goodwill message. The Kick off will also include the training of Farmers on how to use Global Positioning System, (GPS) by Obum Okeke and the farmers verification exercise by Chief Vitalis Onyia.(Oboko)
The Programme Manager of ENADEP, the host of the ceremony, Dr.Ogbonna Onyeisi during AGENDA UPDATE Programme at the Enugu State Broadcasting Services, ESBS, featuring the CEO of Southfield, Hon.Giovanni Madubuaku and Chief Romanus Eze, in their discussion of the topic, " Ensuring Food Sufficiency and Exponential Economic Development in Enugu State" stated that training of farmers on the Local production of organic fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide will guarantee food security in the state and the exportation of Agricultural produces of the State to the internaional markets. He also talked about the registration of Enugu State Cassava farmers and having the database of Enugu State Farmers. According to Hon.Madubuaku, his organization is offering this free training as Corporate Social responsibility to farmers of Enugu State. Chief Eze believed that growing Enugu State economy Exponentially is doable if the State Government can investment in mechanised farming and collaborate with farmers association in the State.
They also discussed at ESBS, the measures that will lead to the revamp of all the abandon tractors in Enugu State.
The Kick Off ceremony comes up on Wednesday, 23rd August, 2023 at Miners Court, at the back of CBN, GRA, Enugu. The kick off ceremony will include the unveiling of Enugu State Farmers website by the Patron of Enugu State Farmers Association Forum.
Www.Enugustatefarmers.online, the platform will bring the Enugu State together and create an access for off-takers to access the farmers of Enugu State with the ease.
