The much-anticipated Echeribe Enugu East Senatorial Zone Football Tournament began with a grand opening on Sunday, August 27th, 2023.
The event, which has been eagerly awaited by football enthusiasts, was announced by Dr. Atu Afamefuna (Echeribe), the founder of Kings Care Foundation and the tournament's sponsor, back in July. Dr. Atu's vision for the Echeribe Football Tournament is to discover outstanding players who will be given the remarkable opportunity to undergo football trials in Europe.
His belief in the incredible talent within Enugu State is driving this initiative, with a goal to nurture selected players' abilities by exposing them to international football standards. This exposure not only offers a pathway to professional prospects in Europe and beyond but also shines a spotlight on the immense talent thriving within the region.
Dr. Atu expressed, "This tournament is a platform to showcase individual brilliance and elevate the reputation of Enugu State's football scene. It exemplifies the dedication of the Kings Care Foundation to empower the youth and establish our area as a fertile ground for future football prodigies."
To incentivize the participants and acknowledge their accomplishments, alluring prizes await the top-performing teams. The championship title comes with a prize of 500,000 naira, while the second and third-place teams will be rewarded with 300,000 naira and 200,000 naira, respectively. This exciting event not only fuels local football enthusiasm but also elevates the region's stature in the larger football community.
