AGRICULTURE: Enugu Farmers Enjoy Free Training on Export Businesses, Quick Grow, High Yield Seedlings in Palm Fruits and Jumbo-Cashew Nuts


In a bid to enhance the economic prospects of local farmers in Nsukka, Enugu State, a seminar was organized by Ski-Business Solutions Limited, in collaboration with the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and Udoamaka Diogbe Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Limited. The event aimed to sensitize and train 120 local farmers on exporting their produce to earn foreign exchange and increase their profits.
Dr Uchenna Anikwe, an Export Consultant with Ski-Business Solutions Limited and also the Traditional Ruler of Diogbe Community, highlighted the need for local farmers to tap into the export market to boost the nation's economy. He emphasized the value of processing local produce to international standards, which would fetch hard currency and make farming highly lucrative.
The seminar also introduced the farmers to quick-growing and high-yield seedlings for palm fruits and jumbo-cashew nuts to improve their yields and meet international specifications. Participants were encouraged to preserve and package their produce for export to reduce waste and enhance the export potential of the region.
Mr. Emmanuel Dimike, a representative from NEPC, mentioned that almost all farm produce, except maize, could be exported, and items such as Nsukka cashew, yellow pepper, ogbono, egusi, and scent leaves were in high demand.
Dr Pauline Obianuko from the Raw Materials Research and Development Council highlighted the importance of leveraging research, innovation, and digital platforms to streamline export operations and add value to the produce.

The participants expressed their gratitude for the enlightening seminar, and some believed it would lead to a shift from importers to exporters in the South-East, while others urged for more such seminars to uplift the economic status of rural farmers and reduce poverty in the region.
Ski-Business Solution's Consultant emphasized on the the potential for local produce to meet international standards and fetch hard currency for the farmers, while highlighting the upcoming Domestic Export Warehouse in Akwuke community, Enugu State, which would facilitate international export trade within the South-East region. 
Representatives from NEPC and the Raw Materials Research and Development Council also provided insights on effective export strategies and the importance of research and innovation in streamlining operations. 

The jubilant participants expressed appreciation for the training and believed it would pave the way for more farmers to become exporters, ultimately boosting the region's economy and reducing poverty.
The overall aim of the event was to empower local farmers, boost the nation's economy, and encourage sustainable agricultural practices for effective export business in Nsukka and its environs.
