In a remarkable event held yesterday, Distinguished Senator Osita Ngwu RG graced the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Holy Childhood Association (HCA) gathering at the Catholic Diocese of Awgu. The senator was warmly received by Most Rev Dr Ifeanyichukwu Okoye, the Bishop of Awgu Diocese, Rev Fr Charles Chukwu, Holy Child Association Chaplain, Awgu Diocese, and Cathedral Administrator Rev Fr Eneh Darlington, along with Rev Sr Anastasia Kambiri Ndubisi, the PMS Director for Awgu Diocese.
The commencement of the event was marked with a holy mass at St. Michael Cathedral Awgu. In his address, Senator Ngwu commended the leadership of the Holy Childhood Association, particularly Bishop Okoye, for providing an avenue for children from over 20 parishes under Awgu Diocese to come together in unity. The event provided an opportunity for the children from various parishes to showcase their diverse cultural displays.
Senator Osita Ngwu encouraged the children to uphold and respect the teachings of their leaders within the Holy Childhood Association. He pledged unwavering support, promising to be available whenever they sought his presence or financial assistance. Representing Senator Ngwu were Hon Emeka Udeh, SSA on Constituency Matters for Awgu Local Government; Hon Ume Henry Ikenna, SSA on Mobilization for Awgu Local Government; Hon Gideon Okolo, SA on Mobilization for Awgu Local Government; and Hon Emma Chukwu, LA on Media and Public Enlightenment.
In an expression of gratitude, the children sang a joyful song and conveyed their appreciation for Senator Ngwu's gracious response to their invitation. Bishop Ifeanyichukwu Okoye praised Senator Ngwu as a bridge builder and an exemplary leader who represents the interests of Enugu West in the Senate. Notably, the Senator had attended two separate occasions held in Awgu Diocese within a span of two weeks. The Bishop assured Senator Ngwu of the Diocese's prayers for God's wisdom and guidance.
The event, centered around the theme "We are Children of One Father God," emphasized unity, cultural diversity, and the importance of nurturing the faith of the younger generation within the context of the Catholic Church.
