In his bid to support civil servants and alleviating the impact of fuel subsidy removal, Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma, declared a new minimum wage of N40,000 for workers in the state. The announcement was made during the Imo State Stakeholders Forum held at Rock View Hotel in Owerri.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized the importance of recognizing the invaluable contributions of civil servants as the driving force behind any successful administration. He affirmed his administration's commitment to partnering with the workforce in the development of the state. As part of his efforts to restore the glory days of the workforce in Imo, he highlighted the provision of free Coaster bus transit services to convey workers to and from their places of work.

During his address, the governor expressed concern over traders exploiting the current economic situation to inflate food prices in the market. To tackle this issue, he announced plans to establish the Imo State Marketing and Commodity Board (ISMCB), which would ensure fair prices for food items. The government intends to create low-cost markets in all 27 Local Government Areas of the state to ensure affordability for the masses.

Furthermore, Governor Uzodimma outlined plans for the construction of low-cost housing estates to cater to low-income earners in the state. These estates will be located in Mgbidi (Orlu zone), Nekede (Owerri zone), and Anara (Okigwe zone).

To promote education among underprivileged students, the governor unveiled the establishment of a Scholarship Education Board. This initiative aims to provide scholarships to talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who often face challenges in continuing their education beyond primary and secondary school.

The announcement of the increased minimum wage and the various developmental plans received applause and appreciation from civil servants and stakeholders present at the forum. Governor Uzodimma's commitment to improving the welfare of workers and implementing measures to support the state's economy reflects his administration's dedication to uplifting the lives of Imo residents.

With these initiatives in motion, Imo state is set to witness positive changes that will benefit its citizens, particularly civil servants, low-income earners, and talented students from marginalized backgrounds.
