ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

WORK, BUSINESS, SCHOOLING CONTINUE FRIDAY

The Enugu State Government wishes to remind citizens and residents of the state that work, business, schooling and other legitimate endeavours will continue tomorrow being Friday, July 7, 2023.

The government directs offices, schools, business premises, markets, including Ogbete Main Market, among others, to open for business. Failure to comply with this directive will be deemed as willful undermining of government’s policy and efforts to restore full working days, productivity, and entrepreneurship in the state, and will as such be met with appropriate sanctions.

Government urges members of the public to disregard any scaremongers and go about their businesses, as security measures are fully in place to continue to enforce law and order and safeguard lives and property.

It is noteworthy that many enemies of Enugu State and Igbo land, the hoodlums, anarchists, and criminal elements, who hide under freedom agitation to perpetrate destruction, violent crimes, as well as those who engage in scaremongering through fake videos and images, have been tracked down, apprehended and are being  brought to book.

We are winning the war and therefore call on Ndi Enugu to volunteer information to the authorities on any suspicious person and movement as well as those who use the social media to spread rumours and instigate panic among the members of the public.

Signed:
Professor Chidiebere Onyia
Secretary to the State Government

Police, army, DSS vow to protect Enugu residents, urge them to go about their businesses.

A combined security operatives from the Enugu State Police Command, Nigerian Army, Department of State Security (DSS) and other security agencies have vowed to continue to protect Enugu residents from any form of security breaches.

They urged the people to go about their normal businesses without fear.

The security operatives issued this statement on Thursday in Enugu after reviewing the gains made so far in ensuring that criminals hitherto enforcing sit-at-home were sacked from the state.

According to them, due to the combined efforts of the security agencies, no attack has been recorded in any part of the state.

While appealing to Enugu residents to ignore rumours of sit-at-home on Friday, the joint security operatives said they were on ground to protect lives and property.

“We are on ground to protect lives and property of our citizens. Our men have been deployed to all locations across the state and the task of ensuring that our people can go out without fear of molestation or intimidation have been taken care of.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our combined security forces have been reinforced and we are assuring Enugu people to come out tomorrow – Friday – and go about their normal businesses.

“We are aware of some scaremongering and social media terrorists who have been roundly defeated and only venting their frustration through the use of fake news. We are fishing them out for the full weight of the law.

“Let us reiterate once again; Enugu residents should disregard any fake news of sit-at-home tomorrow. We have taken the battle to them and they have been flushed out.

“Enugu State is safe for law-abiding citizens,” part of the statement reads.

When our correspondents drove around the state to monitor the claims as contained in the statement, they noticed heavily security operatives strategically positioned at different locations carrying out thorough searches and telling people to go about their normal daily activities.

At Nsukka, Four-Corners, UNTH, Nike, Agbani, and Nineth Mile areas, security men were seen walking around with their armoured vehicles stationed at different spots.

Our correspondents further observed that residents were going about their normal transactions.
