The seamless, peaceful, and smooth election and inauguration of the presiding officers of the 8th Enugu State House of Assembly which saw the emergence of former Deputy Speaker, Engr. Uche Ugwu, of PDP Udi North Constituency as Speaker and Hon. Ezenta Ezeani of PDP Igbo-Etiti East Constituency as Deputy Speaker is a clear indication that the House members are mature, decent, altruistic, and ready to work with Governor Peter Mbah's administration for the development, unity and peace of the state, irrespective of party differences.
This is contrary to the insinuations, plots, sidetalks, rumours and intrigues, making rounds after the election that Labour Party that won 14 seats without any ranking member against the 10 seats won by the PDP, will produce Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Some busy bodies, social media scaremongers, psuedo political pundits, fifth columnists, mischief makers and PDP moles masquerading as PDP and LP snakeholders having been working, insinuating and arguing that the Labour Party being in majority will produce the Speaker and Deputy, forgetting that there are House rules in picking their leaders that are very clear and recognised by the constitution.
It is quite interesting and a good omen for the state and Governor Peter Mbah led administration that even the 14 Labour Party members elect in the House of Assembly jettisoned party politics or being misled by some power mongers, who were determined to capitalise on the opportunity of choosing House leaders to play selfish politics.
Lest we have forgotten, the majority of the LP members of the 8th Enugu State House of Assembly were known PDP members who are major benefactors of the party's years in government before now.
The majority of them contested the 2023 PDP primaries, lost and defected to LP. Others intended contesting on PDP platform before quitting along the line and joining the Labour Party, where they won the election as their party's candidates.
It is not out of place for one to say that the majority of the LP members in Enugu State House of Assembly are PDP in spirit and LP in flesh. Head or tail, what is important is that they have all shown commitment and readiness to work together in the overall interest and betterment of the state.
This is a good beginning for the progress, development, and unity that the state will witness under Governor Peter Mbah's administration.
Also in his eclectic, bipartisan and inclusive leadership disposition aimed at carrying everyone along in moving the state forward, Governor Mbah took out his time and visited reception venues of the House of Assembly members, including those of the Labour Party, assuring them of his administration's willingness to work closely with them in developing and uniting the state for the good of all irrespective of party affiliation, religion, status or tribe.
