The Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Hon. Livinus Nze Anike, on Monday 19th June, led a delegation to have an on-the-spot assessment of the two-story building that collapsed on Sunday 18th June around 9:00pm at Ifo layout, Abakpa Nike, Enugu.
Also at the scene of the incident were the Chief Fire Officer of Enugu State, Engr. Okwudili Ohaa, DPO Abakpa Division, CSP Fredrick Azubuike and staff of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
According to the tenants, they ran away from the building when they noticed sudden cracks on the walls and thereafter the building collapsed few seconds later. The first floor and second floor sank in below the earth surface.
They affairmed that no life was lost but all their properties were damaged.
The Council Chairman sympathised with them and promised to synergize with other relavant agencies to ameliorate the damages.
He further directed his SA on Development, Hon. Okey Igbokwe to deploy excavator to the site in order to check if any person was trapped in the building.
