Rufai Oseni, Arise TV’s fiery anchor on the TV’s flagship program, Morning Show has lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Nigeria for its glaring double standards in withholding the result from Obingwa LGA in the Abia State Governorship election for “investigation and interrogation”.
Rufai lambasted INEC for its inconsistencies with this query:
“So INEC can withhold results already declared at Local Government level for investigation and interrogation at the State collation center but during the Presidential election, LP was asked to go to court over contentious results at the national collation centre on the ground that once results are declared by State returning officers, they can only be upturned by a court of law”.
He equally wondered on what basis or what rules INEC is relying on to decide to withhold the result from Obingwa LGA and subject same to investigation and interrogation since the same electoral body had already set a precedent following its stand during the Presidential election to the effect that, “ INEC lacks the powers to overturn results already declared by returning officers at the states, such results ought to have been challenged at the states, not at the National collation centre. Go to court, it is only the courts that can upturn such”
