CAN WARNS AGAINST VIOLENCE IN THE COMING ELECTIONS ON 11TH MARCH 2023

The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Enugu State has seen the serious need to WARN 'ALL POLITICAL PARTIES AND THEIR CANDIDATES TO ESCHEW VIOLENCE IN ENUGU STATE DURING THE GUBERNATORIAL AND STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS COMING UP ON THE 11TH OF MARCH 2023'.

The warning was contained in a statement made by the apex Christians Unbrella body's State Chapter Chairman Rev. Amb. Emmanuel Edeh in Enugu while addressing the newsmen.

Rev Edeh sounded this warning yesterday when news reporters sought his advice on the inflammatory statements by some political actors and many angry reactions from some quarters in the State.

While responding to the newsmen, he warned politicians to give peace a chance in Enugu State and insisted that whatever will cause violence, intimidation and or killing to win election must be avoided completely, if not, such political parties and their blood thirsty candidates will be resisted by Ndi Enugu and stopped from taking up political leadership in our dear Enugu State.

He said; "we have been sounding this warning and also pleading with all the political parties and their candidates from Enugu State to see themselves as brothers who are seeking for opportunity to serve, if they really have the overall interest of the good people of Enugu State at heart"

"should anyone try to constitute chaos, disrupt the process or deny Nigerians the opportunity to exercise their franchise, the wrath of God will befall such person or group of persons"

"I also advise the youths not to allow themselves to be used as negative instruments to cause mayhem or inflict any form of pain or discomfort to innocent Nigerian citizens who will be coming out to vote their choice candidates next Saturday, the 11th of March 2023, as such act will attract God's condemnation"

Recall that on the 23rd of February 2023, during the Enugu State CAN Prayer Rally, which was Tagged "THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH OH LORD" during which Christians from all the Denominations in the State gathered and poured their hearts before God for the peaceful conduct of these elections, he sounded this same warning against violence during this period of elections and also pleaded with the political parties and their Candidates to prove to the people of Enugu State through their peaceful conduct, that they will provide the dividends of democracy if given the chance

The Chairman advised the electorates to consider candidates with CHARACTER, COMPETENCE, CAPACITY AND FEAR OF GOD which are required of those who will be our next leaders in Enugu State.
