I have closely and carefully watched video footages of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese's interactions with the various political parties candidates from Nsukka LGA for 2023 general elections, which Engr. Vita Abba, the PDP candidate for Nsukka/ Igbo Eze South Federal Constituency appeared and spoke extensively.
The video footages were very clear and self- explanatory. Those who are misconstruing and peddling falsehoods about the incident on social media for cheap political gains are mischief makers, hypocrites and hired hirelings.
Abba who had pre-informed the organisers of the event of his pending campaign rally for the day was made to speak last. Abba, who waited patiently for his turn spoke extemporaily, frankly and friendly amid standing ovation from the audience, before leaving the venue to meet up with his supporters and party members that have been waiting to receive him and the incoming Deputy Governor, Bar. Ifeanyi Ossai at the campaign rally on that day.
Having formed the habit of looking for where and how to castigate or cast aspersion against PDP candidates for the 2023 general elections and pitch them against churches in Nsukka especially the Catholic Diocese for elusive cheap political gains, the Nsukka labourers social media hirelings swiftly took to social media rantings, misyarnings, misinforming the people that Abba walked out on the Bishop and Catholic Reverend fathers at the event.
Abba, an accomplished professional, renowned entrepreneur and Knight of Catholic Church is not known for pride and arrogance. He is a humble man who has enjoyed the grace and mercy of God to attain the height he is today. He has remained mindful of his humble background and has remained humble and good to a fault in all his doings.
Abba is a rare gift to humanity especially the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, which he has played a pivotal role in building and bringing to fruition.
There is nothing wrong that Abba took permission to leave and join his campaign rally scheduled for the same day after presenting his speech as the last speaker.
For the mere fact that Abba attended the event, despite his tight campaign schedules which the organisers were aware of is enough for anybody to know that Abba has tremendous respect for the leadership of the Catholic Church and her faithful of which he is one of them.
It is a known fact that ahead of the 2023 general elections which is less than two months now, all political parties and their candidates are seriously engaged in intense and last minute campaign rallies and strategic engagements.
The Nsukka Catholic Diocese leadership should be wary of being dragged into dangerous partisan politics by the Nsukka social media labourers who have before now dragged their name in the mud by accusing them falsely of being compromised by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi government without any evidence.
The church is not a political party and should not be seen to be partisan at any point no matter what happened.
It is obvious that the Nsukka labourers, who are desperately trying to ride on the back of Mr. Peter Obi's soaring popularity to power are out to destroy anybody or do anything to achieve their aim, which has appeared impossible with the growing popularity of PDP candidates in Enugu North Senatorial zone.
While, I await the Diocese's official report of what transpired at the interactive session, there is need for caution to be exercised, because religious politics will not do anyone good in Nsukka. There is life after these 2023 general elections.
