The Apex body housing all the youths in Enugu East Senatorial Zone and youths of Nkanu origin both in Nigeria and diaspora has issued a communique expressing the organisations' stand against a statement made by one Hon. Lucky Ugo Chukwu, describing it as false, unguarded, malicious, selfish and indicting to the entire Nkanu Nation.
Communique reads:
"COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE EXTRAORDINARY CRITICAL MEETING OF NKANU YOUTHS HELD ON TUESDAY, 10TH JANUARY 2023 AT THE UNIVERSAL HOTEL, INDEPENDENCE LAYOUT ENUGU.
1. The youths of Enugu East Senatorial zone held an important meeting on Tuesday, 10th January 2023 in Enugu under the chairmanship of the National President of Nkanu Youth Organization, Hon. Edeani M. Edeani, JP.
2. In attendance at the meeting were more than 60 delegations from the 6 local government areas of Enugu East senatorial zone; Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Isi-Uzo, Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South local government areas. The leaders of youths from all Enugu East zone youth organizations, delegates from the leading political parties in the state; PDP,LP, APC, APGA,YPP etc, and religious youth leaders.
3. That the sociocultural forum is non-partisan as its members are drawn from youths from all the political parties in the state.
4. The meeting extensively discussed various issues of the state of affairs of Nkanu Youths, particularly the current political process, the stake of the youths and the 2023 elections.
5. Arising therefrom, the meeting resolved as follows:
i. That Nkanu Youths appreciates all the critical political parties in the state for zoning their gubernatorial ticket to the Enugu East zone and for ensuring that all Ndi Nkanu are the gubernatorial flag bearers of all the leading political parties.
ii. That all the political parties and their Gubernatorial candidates must show more seriousness in their resolve and plans for Nkanu youths, as Nkanu youths cannot support anyone or party who fails to engage Nkanu Youths in their plans and programs for Nkanu youth development, job creation and inclusiveness.
iii. That we therefore UNEQUIVOCALLY CONDEMN IN STRONGEST TERMS THE UGLY AND FALSE UTTERANCES OF ONE OF OUR ELDERS, HON. LUCKY UGO CHUKWU MADE AGAINST NKANU NATION, OUR HISTORY AND SOME OF OUR LEADERS.
iii. THAT WE STATE CLEARLY THAT MR. LUCKY UGO CHUKWU‘S UNGUARDED AND MALICIOUS UTTERANCES WERE MADE TO FOSTER HIS SELFISH INTEREST AND DO NOT IN ANY WAY REPRESENT THE TRUTH OR THE POSITION OF NDI NKANU
iv. THAT WE ARE BY THIS NOTICE ISSUING MR. LUCKY UGO CHUKWU A 5 DAYS ULTIMATUM TO PUBLICLY RETRACT HIS FALSE STATEMENT AGAINST THE NKANU NATION AS CONSPIRING AGAINST OTHER PARTS OF THE STATE AND SO ON OR PREPARE TO DANCE TO THE MUSIC OF ALL NKANU YOUTHS: THIS IS NOT A THREAT BUT A PROMISE.
vi. That we also by this message informing our traditional leaders led by the Chairman, Enugu East Senatorial District Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Julius Nnaji and the traditional ruler of Amurri Community, Igwe Charles E. Nwoye of this ultimatum.
vii. That we charge all our brothers in different political parties to focus on the issue-based campaigns as against the ugly route of campaigns of acrimony and calumny as we the Nkanu youth cannot fold our arms and allow anyone to destroy our future, distort our history or turn us to enemies of ourselves or other senatorial zones just because of their selfish political interest.
viii. That we thank the State Government and the security agencies for improved security even as we urge them to put more effort into bringing insecurity and kidnapping in the state to a final halt.
6. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of peace and unanimous commitment to the decisions.
