In appreciation of what they described as the renewal of hope and unprecedented gubernatorial choice for Ndi-Enugu to continue with the welfare of the teachers, over 7,000 teachers in the state yesterday held an endorsement rally for the PDP gubernatorial candidate, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, describing him as the hope and pride of the teachers. The teachers under the auspices of the Post Primary School Management Board (PPSMB), led by the state board Chairman, Dr. Mrs. Favour Ngozi Ugwuanyi, and the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze who also because of the status of his office, doubles as the leader of the education sector in the state.

Visibly overwhelmed by the massive show of solidarity and endorsement by the teachers who identified with his vision and mission for the state and nicknamed him the “reformer of society”, Dr. Mbah declared that "I will continue to cherish this show of love and uncommon decision, having understood the reason for continuity of government”, and assured the teachers that their promotions and other emoluments will receive speedy attention if and when elected governor come March 11 2023.

The teachers gave many reasons for adopting the PDP candidate as their preferred choice for Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi's successor and the main reason for making their decisions public and foreclosing their doors for the candidates of other parties, describing them as a total distraction to the continued growth of the state. Enumerating some of their reasons; they said they considered the notable achievements of the PDP administration in the state, including but not limited to regular payment of their salaries/allowances, regular promotion of teachers, stressing that the PDP has ensured adequate maintenance of  teacher's welfare in the last two decades.

They argued that teachers had the justification to adopt Dr. Mbah as their best choice for 2023 so as to continue in the trajectory of good governance in the state.

According to the teachers in their separate speeches, other reasons for throwing their weight behind the candidacy of Mbah included "regularization of the appointment of all volunteer teachers,  resumption of payment of gratuity to primary school teachers and the renovation and reconstruction of new classroom blocks as well as construction of new office complex by the PDP government currently led by Governor Ugwuanyi.”

Thanking the governor for the divine choice of Dr. Mbah as his successor, they pledged to mobilize their families to deliver him in the forthcoming March 11 governorship election in the state. Affirming their support for Dr. Mbah, the teachers also pointed out that in spite of the current economic situation, the PDP led government in the state has ensured the “sustenance of free and compulsory education policy from Primary to JSS 3 and the party has maintained industrial harmony in the education sector. “

There is no record of industrial unrest in the education sector since the PDP government took over the affairs of the state in 1999 and that all the successive administrations have kept this trajectory of development. Pointing that Dr. Mbah is going to do wonders for the teachers having been an exceptional personality over the years, the teachers explained that they were happy because the new education environment in the state caters for their welfare while also providing the needed corollaries that would enhance teaching and learning under the PDP administration.

In all, the stakeholders in the education sector expressed their satisfaction with the choice of Dr. Peter as their next governor, noting that he would pay genuine attention the current governor has accorded education in the state since he assumed office, paving the way for the administration's impressive records which are exemplified by the
emergence of state of the art school buildings, reforms in technical education, enhanced performance of pupils and students in internal and external competitions, among others.

Therefore, in his response; Dr. Mbah reiterated his commitment to put education in its priority place when he comes in as governor. He charged the teachers to go to the field and ensure the replication of the uncommon love and sincere endorsement to translate into voting on the March 11 2023 polls so as to renew the PDP mandate in the state to continue on the path of social service delivery to Ndi-Enugu.
