That Enugu State is a peaceful state is no doubt. Governor Ugwuanyi has been mindful of peace and security in the state and has always committed enormous resource to it. This the governor has done for close to eight years now, resulting in his being honoured locally and internationally as the most peaceful governor in Nigeria. Enugu, however, in the twilight of the Ugwuanyi administration has recorded some cases of security infringement, but they do not detract from the milestone the governor has achieved in peace and security. The infractions are a dot in the circle. Enugu is still the most peaceful state in Nigeria in the face of the parlous security situation in Nigeria.
There is no doubting the fact that there are deliberate attempts by some forces opposed to the Ugwuanyi administration to reverse the fortunes of the state in terms of peace and security. It is alleged that the infeactions were deliberately orchestrated by the opposition in order to diminish the milestone the state has achieved in peace and security. The manner by which these breaches occurred points to this line of thinking.
Some watchers have fingered some suspects even within the security apparatchiks. But the dog does not bite the bone hung on its neck. That is why that permutation is farfetched, though without prejudice to the fact that nothing may be ruled out. Howsoever it may be, Governor Ugwuanyi ensured the security breaches were contained.Whoever is behind this black leg loses labour. Their blade has fallen on vulnerable crest, for Enugu State under Ugwuanyi bears a secured life which must not yield to the dastardly acts of the bloodhounds. Pockets of such attacks are a dot in a circle. Enugu is largely peaceful and secured and Governor Ugwuanyi is minded to maintain peace and security in Enugu State.
Even the incoming governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, is poised to take a cue from Ugwuanyi, knowing full well that his exponential economic growth plans can only crystalize in an atmosphere of peace. So, he is strategized on the best means by which Ugwuanyi's peace is sustained, parts of which are the proposed provision of mass employment to Enugu youths and community policing.
Some disgruntled politicians, especially from the Labour Party are making mountain out of mole hill over the security situation in the state which Governor Ugwuanyi has successfully tracted. They are using the situation to score some cheap political points, muddling up issues that have no relationships. What has the security situation at Eha-Amufu got to do with Governor Ugwuanyi's senatorial bid which the people of Enugu North Senatorial zone are eager to make good in recognition of Ugwuanyi's good leadership abilities evident in his good governance of Enugu State?
It is clear that the daredevils behind the security infringement in some areas of the state cannot match the security strength Governor Ugwuanyi has bolstered, and, so, resort to gorilla attacks. They hit and run away. But then, it is only a question of time for Governor Ugwuanyi's dragnet to catch up with them. The kidnappers at Opi-Ugwuogo Road can tell the story of how not to dare the White Lion. The criminals who resorted to killing and terrorizing of the people of Awgu months ago who successfully made it to hell can tell their stories before Hade and Persopone. Ugwuanyi is surely closing in on the criminals troubling his tranquil realm. The troublers of Enugu State shall be troubled. This state Ugwuanyi committed into the hands of God, the Lord shall keep.
The situation at Agu-Amede and Mgbuji communities in Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government of Enugu State is unfortunate and heartrending.The killings by the Fulani herders since the inception of the Buhari administration is a national security challenge. The Ugwuanyi administration had put strategies for community policing in place when the governor set up the Neighborhood Watch and Forest Guards as instruments with which to tackle the ugly situation of herders swooping in on villagers at odd hours of the night and massacring them in their sleep.
But then, it appears the attack of the communities by the herders is reprisal. It is reported that the Agu-Amede and Mgbuji communities killed cattle belonging to the herders in response to the cattle trampling on their farms, eating and destroying their crops. The herders retaliated by attacking the communities. It was also reported that the communities would not take the advice to refrain from killing cows that strayed into their farms, knowing full well the fact that the herders operate with impunity and ostensible backing of the powers that be at the centre.In moments like this, it requires wisdom to navigate through the charted waters of insecurity orchestrated by the herders who apparently appear to enjoy the tacit support of the authorities at the centre.
The Fulani herders operate with impunity and upon the carnage they perpetrated on communities all over the country, non of them has ever been brought to judgment. We all know this and so blaming any state government for herders' menace is a mark of either deliberate mischief or ignorance, moreso as governors do not control the security apparatchiks. Commissioners of police do not take order from state governors, to say nothing of the military commands.The harmonization of the security structure in the country is very important, especially as it concerns the need for state police. That will help state governments promptly handle emergent security breaches in their states.
Governor Ugwuanyi has sustainably insulated Enugu State from the terrible security situations in the country. Enugu has been impervious to banditry, terrorism, assassination, Gboko Haram and all manner of terrible security scenarios and crimes in the country. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi deserves our commendation for thus far. Those playing politics with the security of lives and property in the state should desist from that. Those sponsoring kidnapping and assassination in the state in order to create the impression that Enugu State is not as peaceful as it is portrayed should know that human lives ought not to be trifled with in the name of politics. Governor Ugwuanyi has demonstrated all through his reign in Enugu State how not to use power wrongly. Power consists in using it for the wellbeing of the people. Governor Ugwuanyi is mindful of the moral nature of power and authority, and, so, wears the toga of power with a sense of modesty. This has paid off in the state as Ugwuanyi has united the state with the binding cord of peace and unity. Those who seek power by creating insecurity in the state will surely abuse power should it mistakenly be thrust to them. Where lies the benefit of power obtained by the shedding of the blood of the citizens?
Let the maruding vultures gnawing at the entrails of the state with the intention to diminish the security status Governor Ugwuanyi has wrought know that they labour in vain. Ugwuanyi will smite the mosquito and display a palm of blood. That peace for which Enugu State is celebrated is sustained and the gates of hell shall never prevail.
