In mid-June this year His Excellency, the Governor, approved the construction of a brand new public primary school at Ugbele Ohom Orba. But the project had stalled since then because the families that own the plots of land there were not properly consulted by the Local Authority. We negotiated, pleaded, cajoled to no avail. The resistance from Amadim was very stiff. For more than three months there was a stand-off.
Today, I am pleased to announce that yesterday, November 7, 2022 Amadim and Umuokwure graciously offered 7 plots of land for a brand new public primary school at Ugbele. The project re-commenced this morning. It is expected that by January next year academic activities will begin in the new school. In fact, seats, desks, marker-boards etc for the school have been delivered to Orba Development Centre.
The name of the school: Veronica Ugwuanyi Memorial Primary School Ohom Orba
This is for me a dream come true. The school will cater for the elementary education of children from the following villages in Ohom: Ugbelle, Anyazuru, Ugwueke, Amolu, Agbugwu Oli, Amajoka, (Ugwuabaja Imilike) etc. The socio-economic significance of the new school is incalculable. These villages have the highest number of out-of-school-children as well as kid-hunters because of the distance they have to cover to get to the nearest primary school. The sad consequence is that they have the lowest level of economic empowerment in Ohom.
I thank His Excellency for granting approval and for providing the funds. I am grateful to Deputy Mayor Orka for offering to secure jobs as compensation to the land-owners; God bless Charles Nnaemeka Eze (NaniBoi), who used his position as a Board Member to help seal the project; many thanks to Cosmas Agbo (PDP Chairman Udenu), Engr. Onyema Odo, Ichie Mathew Agbo etc.
I am particularly thankful to Ifeanyi Ugwumba and Ambrose Ozioko for their amazing public-spirit. At a point they offered to even help raise funds to purchase the land. May our Ancestors keep unremitting vigilance over them. Chief Santos (Igwe-Elect) displayed amazing local wisdom that helped us steer through. Sincerely, Chief Santos deserves to be honoured. I can’t wait to see him turbaned as Igwe. He is a wise man.
God bless us all and prosper Orba Udulekenyi!
