There was jubilation among the students of the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu State on Friday, as their rector, Prof. Augustine Uchechukwu Nweze (PhD) who recently bagged NANS Life Patron, for his numerous contributions and innovative achievements in the prestigious institute and his roles in the Association of Nigerian Polytechnics was finally certified as 'The First NANS Life Patron, South East Region (LPSER)' following the report of NANS Committee Of Inquiry released on Friday Afternoon 7th of October 2022 at Abuja.
Recall that Prof. Nweze was recommended for Life Patronship by the NANS committee of inquiry in August 2022 during the NANS stakeholders meeting in Abuja after going through his landmark achievements presented by the committee.
Prof. Nweze made a heartwarming statement "I dedicate this honour to God and Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for creating an enabling and conducive environment for talented and purpose driven individuals to thrive" during the event in Enugu.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has honoured the Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu State, Professor Augustine Uchechukwu Nweze with Life Patronship for his immense contributions towards the growth of the organisation's South East Zone. The largest students movement in Africa commended Prof. Nweze for his mentorship and fatherly love for the leadership of NANS in the South East Region and his innovative contributions towards the improvement of learning environment in IMT.
The delegation of NANS comprised of the National, Zonal and State Representatives led by the coordinator of the entire South East Zone, Comr. Onya Ibeabuchi Moses was received by the students and the management team of the Institute of Management and Technology IMT Enugu. The apex standents umbrella body after touring the institution to interface with students and confirm the state of the campus, visited the office of the rector to appreciate him for the numerous contributions, innovative achievements and projects he attracted to the prestigious Institute.
While commending the Rector, Comr. Onya itemised some of his numerous achievements since he assumed office in 2016. "Professor Augustine Uchechukwu Nweze has systematically, carefully and courageously demonstrated willingness and capacity in transforming Institute of Management and Technology IMT to a 21st Century and World Class Standard higher institution, meeting up with academic requirements and measures necessary to be adjudged 'one of the best polytechnics in the country, ranking next to YABATECH in Lagos' ". While extolling his proven innovative track records and academic developments in IMT, Cmr. Onya acknowledged and gladly appreciated his efforts in managing the school fees crisis in the Institute earlier this year and enumerated several supports he has given to the Students Community in Nigeria through his position in the Association of Nigerian Polytechnics and in the South East Region where he has resolved issues bothering students through his diplomatic interventions and wealth of wisdom.
"Prof, we are here to give honour to whom honour is due, on behalf of Nigerian Students in the South East and beyond, we accord a Life Patronship to you to continue the good work you're doing as our father and the most student friendly rector in Nigeria, Sir, this is an honour and at the same time a responsibility, it is our way of expressing our gratitude and to officially seal your role in the South East Students Community, we will continue to pray that the almighty God will give you the grace to carry out this noble duty, Amen!" Comr. Onya prayed.
The Event was graced by the Spiritual Director of NANS Zone F. South East, Reverend Ambassador Emmanuel Ositadinma Edeh who also serves as the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Enugu State Chapter and the Chairman of Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, Enugu State. Rev. Edeh thanked NANS for coming up with the honour as a way of appreciating Prof. Nweze's immense contributions towards the growth of the South East Region of the organisation. He congratulated Prof. Nweze with a warm handshake and prayed for divine mercy and grace of God to continue to lead him. He urged the NANS delegates to continue to render their services in the way of christ and as leaders of tomorrow.
The Deputy Coordinator of NANS Zone F. South East, Comr. Ejike PraiseGod, The Secretary of NANS Zone F. South East, Comr. Frank E. Orji, the NANS National Stakeholder, Super Comr. Obinna Achionye (Political Obyno), the NANS Treasurer, Enugu State and Former Aspirant, NANS National Deputy Senate President, Comr. Charles Edeh, the immediate past NANS Chairman of Enugu State and the current NANS Director of Special Duties Zone F, Comr. Romanus Ogene spoke on progress and current issues bothering the organisation, the worrisome protracted strike by the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU), the insecurity in South East, the ugly conditions of students in different campuses in the South East, the successful concluded NANS National Election and the need for students of South East to mobilize and come out en mass to vote in sincere leaders come 2023 respectively.
The rector of IMT, Professor Augustine Uchechukwu Nweze, PhD, in his vote of thanks opined thus, "Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen.
I am extremely honoured to have been found worthy of recieveing this Certificate of life Patronship from a highly revered apex student organisation in the Nation.
First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for recognising my contribution to the education sector and considering me worthy of this honour and special responsibility. The truth is, I was just doing my Job, but now, you have set a benchmark of excellence for me.
I am completely overwhelmed with emotions and lack the right words to express my gratitude.
This is sincerely, a very special moment for me.
History is actually being made as I am not just a life Patron of NANS, but a pioneer patron of the organisation from the South East Region.
I would also want to use this opportunity to commend the governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his method of leadership; he has created an enabling and conducive environment for talented and purpose driven individuals to thrive.
He has indeed left very big foot prints and we strive everyday to make him proudly.
I am aware that most of you are from outside the state and will be available till tomorrow. We have made adequate arrangements for you all to tour the state and experience the serenity and peace we enjoy under the leadership of his Excellency.
We are all aware that teaching and administration has always been a selfless profession and I am so grateful for my team of selfless individuals whose dialy sacrifice and passion for the job has brought us this far. I have been blessed to be working with individuals whose work ethics, dedication and commitment is top notch.
Also, I would want to commend this organisation for actually taking out time to follow up on the activities of higher institutions in their Zone and doing proper research.
I do not take this special honour for granted and I must say, it has given me the push to keep doing right no matter the situation.
